Lane Metro Partnership Presents Economic Excellence Awards

The Springfield Creamery, Inc. and Western Pneumatics, Inc. were presented the 2008 Lane Metro Partnership Economic Excellence Award. The economic excellence awards are given to successful Lane County businesses who demonstrate a commitment to our community, their employees, customers and industries.
The Springfield Creamery, Inc. was founded in 1960 by Chuck and Sue Kesey. They established their niche in the natural foods market with Nancy’s Yogurt. Today the Springfield Creamery operates in Eugene, producing yogurt, organic cultured soy, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream and kefir. The Nancy’s family of cultured products is sold across the United States in natural food stores and supermarkets such as Safeway and Fred Meyers, producing $18 million in annual sales. Health Magazine recently selected Nancy’s Organic low fat Raspberry kefir for the “2008 America’s Healthiest Food Award” in the dairy beverage category.
Western
Pneumatics was established in 1982, as a high and low pressure pneumatic system
manufacturer. Headquartered in northwest Eugene,
Western Pneumatics designs, manufacturers and installs pneumatic conveying
systems, finger jointer systems and mechanical systems for wood products plants
throughout North America. Western Pneumatics
manufactures their own product lines and also fabricates equipment and
machinery for other companies in the environmental, grass seed and food
industries as well as other pneumatics firms.
Western Pneumatics employs over 180 people, paying an average salary of
$50,000 a year and providing full benefits.
Annual sales for Western Pneumatics top $30 million.
Chuck Forster, executive director of the Lane Workforce Partnership, was presented the Director’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Economic Development.
