Retail Trade
The Eugene/Springfield metropolitan area is the regional hub for retailing in the southern Willamette Valley. Its diverse retail offerings draw shoppers from the coast to the Cascades and from along the 100-mile stretch of Interstate 5, route from Albany to Roseburg.
Regional Retail
Valley River Center is a one million-square-foot enclosed mall two miles north of downtown Eugene offering approximately 145 retail outlets, including three major department stores, countless specialty shops, and a variety of food outlets.
Gateway Mall, in Springfield, near Interstate 5, is anchored by three major department stores and includes more than 80 specialty shops. Gateway Mall has a 15,000-square-foot entertainment hub that includes 16 food booths in a cafe court, a video game center, and 29 movie screens in two theaters.
5th Street Public Market is a short distance from Eugene's downtown mall in the Market District, which also includes the Fifth-Pearl Shops, and Station Square. It plays an important role in drawing people downtown with its bustling concentration of unique boutiques and shops, antique stores and eateries. The 5th Street Public Market boasts more than 60 specialty shops, restaurants and offices, and features the area's Heritage Nike Store.
Oakway Center features shops such as Borders Books, Chico's, Trader Joe's, Bed Bath & Beyond, Pier One and Old Navy, as well as several popular restaurants. Oakway's recent expansion and renovated buildings are on a main Eugene arterial and offer high traffic in upscale surroundings.
Community Retail
Lane County community retail centers serve outlying areas, making shopping convenient and reducing traffic congestion. Nearly every neighborhood grocery store is surrounded by a variety of smaller specialty stores and restaurants, creating community shopping centers away from the bigger, more crowded shopping destinations.
Other outlets include retail giants Costco, Home Depot (3), ShopKo (2), Target (2), and Wal-Mart (4).
