History
In 1985, the Lane Metro Partnership Inc. was founded and charged with the mission of marketing Eugene, Springfield and Lane County to industries and businesses that would locate facilities in the area, bringing new jobs with them. The Partnership was intentionally limited to recruitment. By contract, local business assistance was provided by the staffs of the partner agencies - the cities of Eugene and Springfield, Lane County and the Eugene and Springfield Area Chambers of Commerce.
Later, in 1989, the Partnership expanded its mission to include working with local businesses as well as outside businesses. In the same year, the Partnership's Board hired an Executive Director with local experience and deep local commitment. The Director guided the Partnership in its dealings with local business issues. In the years following the change in mission and staff leadership, the Partnership's role in supporting local businesses continued to grow. During the two decades that followed, many very large companies as well as small entrepreneurial businesses relocated or expanded in Lane County. Thanks in large part to the recruitment and business development efforts of the Metro Partnership, employment opportunities increased by more than 20,000 new jobs.
A name change to the Lane Metro Partnership took effect on January 1, 2003. Shortly, afterwards Jack Roberts became the new Executive Director of the Lane Metro Partnership, following a long national search.
Today, the mission of the Partnership continues to be marketing Lane County to support the recruitment of new industry to the area for the purpose of local job creation.
